Everything you have been reading up until this point has been about pregnancy and birth. But what about after the birth?! Hmmm… well this is something you can’t really prepare for entirely during your pregnancy. Its almost impossible to imagine how its going to be once your baby is there…what they will look like, their character, how you will feel, the challenges you will face together.
So maybe its best if you read this post after your little one has arrived
You, your partner and your baby have done it! Your child has entered the world. What a miracle!
Now its time for mum to adjust physically, hormonally and emotionally. Time for the baby to get used to this world outside of mummy’s tummy. Time for dad to adjust emotionally. Here are some of the issues that have come up for the families I have treated post partum. Please note that there are some really great remedies that can help you get through these situations.
· Crying baby without obvious cause
· Sickness (you or the baby)
· Latching problems
· Nipple pain and breast changes as milk comes in
· Contractions continue after the birth
· Bleeding
· Problems with passing stool after the birth
· Low/no sex drive
· Emotions and mood swings: Birth disappointment, angry, sad, crying all the time, guilt, irrational thoughts
· Exhaustion
· Bladder and pelvic floor issues

Finally here are my personal thoughts on those first weeks after the birth:
Mums: You have done a lot of hard work and need time for recovery and adjustment, but don’t forget to allow space for the man in your life to find his place in this new structure too. Keep pulling him in and including him, whatever that might mean.
Dads: Its not easy for mum being a milk machine and being totally depended on. Give her water when she breast feeds, feed her nourishing food and tell her she’s beautiful.
