I often recommend Omega-3-fatty acids to women who are trying to fall pregnant, to those with PMS or mood swings or basically anyone who shows signs of having an hormonal imbalance.
Here is why!
Omega-3 fatty acids are inside all cells in the human body and are precursors of eicosanoids (locally produced hormones) which are helpful in the prevention and treatment of many illnesses, especially in women.
For example, women suffering from very painful periods often have an imbalance between anti-inflammatory, vasodilator hormones which are derived from omega-3 fatty acids and pro-inflammatory, vasoconstrictor hormones derived from omega-6 fatty acids. So an increase of the Omega-3 fatty acids can reverse these symptoms resulting in less pain during menstruation.
Omega-3 fatty acids can also help women with infertility problems as the blood flow to the uterus is improved. During pregnancy, supplementation lowers the risk of premature birth, improves blood flow to the placenta, can increase child birth weight, and can help with the child’s brain development. Supplements can also continue to be taken whilst breastfeeding which carries on supporting the child’s brain development.
There is also evidence to suggest that Omega-3 fatty acids can help to prevent the following problems: preeclampsia, postpartum depression, menopausal problems, postmenopausal osteoporosis, and breast cancer.
So now you know why I so often love to recommend this little wonder-fat!
